In anticipation of the coming ubiquitous network society, not only the information industry but also various other industries - including manufacturing and material production industries, as well as service industries such as distribution, medical and entertainment - will create new types of value to add to their products and services during the 21st century.
In the course of this, it is said that optoelectronic technology - which is applied in the fields of information processing, communication, information recording, processing/measurement, sensing and medical care - will play a leading role in the development of society. This technology is also expected to contribute greatly to providing security of life, by helping to solve issues relating to the global environment, energy and food safety.
