Nigeria International Chemical Exhibition will be held by Nigeria Ministry of Trade & Investment, Nigeria Ministry of Agriculture and CCPIT. This exhibition will promote the development of Nigeria chemical industry.
With total population of 0.17 billion, Nigeria ranks No. 1 in Africa. In recent years, the annual GDP growth rate of Nigeria reaches 7.5%. The total GDP of Nigeria is beyond South Africa and Nigeria has become the No.1 economy in Africa. Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa and No. 6 in the world. The GDP of Nigeria ranks No 37 in the world.
The manufacturing in Nigeria includes fur, textile, plastics, food, cosmetics, personal care, petrochemical, etc. The demand of chemicals is high but the composition capability of Nigeria is low, so the annual need of import amounts billions of dollars. According to the local media, currently the need of chemicals is about 3.6 billion US$ and only 0.38 billion US$ can be supplied by local manufacturers and 3.2 billion US$ need to be imported.
As the largest oil producer in Africa, the need of oil field chemicals is very high in Nigeria. The refining and deep processing in Nigeria is lagging, which constrains the development of basic chemical industry and the whole chemical industry. The local chemical manufacturing only includes paint, coating and adhesives. But the raw materials of them are all imported. As for other speciality chemicals including anticorrosive, water treatment, wood and fabric chemicals all need importation. The market need of flavors & fragrances, cosmetics, soap and bath products are very large. In the past 30 years, the middle class in Nigeria doubled and have become the main driving force of the need of cosmetics. Besides, the need of agrochemical in Nigeria is also very large. The need of agrochemicals is about 0.12 billion US$ in Nigeria.
