Poland remains the biggest coal producer and consumer in Europe. However, as Poland continues to face pressure from the European Union to comply with its low carbon policy, the domestic coal industry is drawn into the challenges of the global coal market. As it stands, Polish coal increasingly has to compete with Russian and Ukrainian coal. But with its large unexploited coal reserves, highly skilled labour and excellent infrastructure systems, there is a growing number of opportunities for foreign investors in the Polish coal market.
