Agriculture accounts for approximately 11% of the value of Kazakhstan's economic production. Farmers raise sheep and cattle throughout Kazakhstan and arable land occupies about 30 million hectares, or 12% of the country's total territory. Chief livestock products are meat, dairy goods, leather, and wool. The country's major crops include wheat, barley, cotton, and rice. Wheat exports are a major source of hard currency producing about US $300-$400 million per year.
