Islam is deeply rooted in China, with a history of over 1,400 years, especially in the northwestern regions. According to data from the country's National Bureau of Religious Affairs, China currently has 23 million Muslims, or 1.5-2% of the total population. The Muslim population in the northwestern provinces of Ningxia, Gansu, Xinjiang and Qinghai has exceeded 18 million, accounting for nearly 80% of the total. Strict religious practices and the large Muslim population pose a huge market demand for halal food, in particular, halal-certified food.
