North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the German states with the most water resources and is therefore the ideal venue for the acqua alta. The acqua alta sees itself as a platform for the exchange and transfer of knowledge for everyone involved in flood prevention.
At acqua alta, flood prevention officers of local authorities and representatives from politics, science and research meet with disaster management professionals, meteorologists and morphologists as well as representatives of the hydraulic engineering industry, architects and engineers. This interdisciplinary concept makes the acqua alta unique in Europe.
