The International Biohydrometallurgy Symposium (IBS) is the biannual global conference on biohydrometallurgy, bioremediation, and the related subjects. These sciences and technologies have a high potential to establish environmentally-favorable processes in mining industries for the recovery of base/precious metals from primary/secondary resources including urban mines, and for the remediation of exploited mining sites. Any other industries dealing with metals and metalloids can also benefit from advances in biohydrometallurgy.
IBS 2019 will be held in Fukuoka. This is the first time to organize IBS in Japan. Fukuoka prefecture was used to be the center of coal mining industries. In 1911, the College of Engineering, Kyushu Imperial University (former Department of Earth Resources Engineering, Kyushu University) was established as an academic home to support the mining industry.
