The Busan Global Water Forum has been held annually since 2013, co-sponsored by IWA and as a follow-up to the 2012 IWA World Water Congress Busan. The last four forums have contributed to the establishment of a network between policy makers, academics and technical experts for the Asian water industry development. They have also provided sustainable solutions to Asia's water problems, which is undergoing rapid urbanization. The 4th forum last year was held together with International Academic Conference and encouraged diverse discussions and broad participation of experts. In doing so, it has become a truly global forum.
The Busan Global Water Forum, which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, will be held from September 6 to September 7, 2017 under the theme of "Towards Water-Wise Cities of the Future". "Water-Wise City" refers to a city that has implemented comprehensive water management governance to create a sustainable future city and addresses water security, threatened by climate change, population growth and urbanization. The frameworks of Water-Wise City, specific implementation strategies and related technologies will be discussed at the forum.
