Infrastructure procurement has undergone significant change over the past 20 years with the greater use of bespoke contract conditions, a range of different contracting methods and changes in the approach to risk allocation. The ANCOLD Executive has considered the current environment and concluded that the dams industry would benefit from the facilitated review and discussion of appropriate procurement (including insurance) approaches to the rehabilitation/construction of dams and other high construction risk, high operational hazard, long-life assets. The Executive will seek to develop consensus from the forum on the key considerations to be addressed before procuring a dam construction or upgrade project. This outcome could well form the foundation for future practice in the industry.
