The industry is riding high on the growth in the Indian automobile industry, new construction in the housing segment and improving infrastructure throughout the country and burgeoning middle class with new aspirations and buying power. Over the past few years, the Indian paint market has substantially grown and caught the attention of many international players.
The Indian industry is valued at $3.5 billion in terms of value and 2 million metric tons by volume. The current per capita consumption is 1.5 kilograms, which is far lower than that of global and Asian per capita consumption of 20 kilograms and 5 kilograms respectively. Thus, the industry is expected to continue to exhibit double-digit growth from 2011 to 2015.
