The terahertz (THz) region, located between microwaves and infrared, represents one of the most challenging and promising frontiers of the electromagnetic spectrum. THz radiation plays a crucial role in understanding various fundamental physical phenomena and has applications in fields such as astrophysics, planetary sciences, remote sensing, and atmospheric physics.
Despite its importance, implementing technologies for generating, detecting, and manipulating signals in this range has faced multiple challenges, known as the THz gap. Since its first edition in 1990, the International Symposium on Space Terahertz Technology (ISSTT) has been a key forum where scientists and engineers worldwide share technological and scientific advances to bridge this gap and expand the potential of THz technology.
The ISSTT 2026 will take place in Chile, a country renowned for its leadership in astronomy and space observation. With some of the clearest skies on the planet and world-class observatories, Chile has become a major hub for the development of radio astronomy and terahertz technologies. The conference will bring together researchers from diverse disciplines to discuss innovations in instrumentation, detection systems, and emerging applications in space missions, astrophysics, and Earth sciences.
In past editions, ISSTT has played a central role in developing key technologies used in major scientific projects such as the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA), the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), and the Herschel Space Telescope. The conference is supported by the international scientific community and has been technically sponsored by organizations such as NASA, IEEE MTT-S, and various research institutions worldwide.
The ISSTT 2026 will provide a unique opportunity to foster collaboration among researchers, strengthen global networks, and present the latest advancements in THz technology on an international stage.
