More than half a century after the invention of the laser, optical technology has developed widely to become a major component within scientific fields such as electronics technology, robotics electronics and IT technology resulting in the establishment of the medical photonics field. This field has developed a wider variety of advanced technologies, equipment and devices with impressive results.
In recent years the application of imaging technologies and imaging products have rapidly progressed from elemental devices to medical image processing technology, making excellent use of computers. As we are in a aging society with a falling birthrate, such advances are preferable as they allow for minimal and non-invasive medical treatments which is a key reason that we expect this particular field to continue to grow rapidly.
