Africa is home to an estimated 12% of the world's oil reserves, with demand for oil and gas expected to continue to grow in the continent - driven by multiple factors including population growth, economic development, and geopolitical wars around the world. This growth presents promising opportunities for investors, service providers, and local communities alike.
Recent exploration success in Africa's prolific oil and gas basins, particularly off the coasts of Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, and Mozambique, has fuelled the demand for FPSO's - who offer efficient production solutions in deepwater and remote locations. There are now 43 existing FPSO projects and 14 planned and announced FPSO projects in Africa.'
Despite the progress, Africa's FPSO sector faces challenges like infrastructure limitations, skilled workforce shortages, and volatile oil prices. However, these challenges also present opportunities for investment in infrastructure development, training programs, and diversification of the oil and gas economy. Domestic and international companies alike must divert their attention to multiple fronts: managing dynamic regulatory changes, reducing carbon emissions on FPSO's and front loading the FPSO project lifecycle.
