WCGALP is the conference to share knowledge and to interact on innovations in the area of genetics applied to livestock production that enable to breed animals that allow livestock production chains to meet future needs.
This congress is the premier conference for researchers and professionals involved in genetic improvement of livestock. Delegates from around the world gather every four years to attend the scientific program and to network with colleagues. We have had 11 successful congresses since the '70s; in Madrid (Spain, 1974 and 1982), Lincoln (USA, 1986), Edinburgh (UK, 1990), Guelph (Canada, 1994), Armidale (Australia, 1998), Montpellier (France, 2002), Belo Horizonte (Brazil, 2006), Leipzig (Germany, 2010), Vancouver (Canada, 2014), Auckland (New Zealand, 2018), and Rotterdam(Netherlands, 2022).
Scope of WCGALP
Sustainable production of high-quality animal proteins for a growing world population is the key challenge for livestock industry in the future. In 2050, resilient and healthy animals need to produce enough animal proteins in a resource-efficient and societally accepted way to feed the world's population. Animal breeding relies on research and development and on long-term commitment to meet the changing consumer demands to increase efficiency in the food chain, to reduce the ecological footprint, to minimize the use of antibiotics, and to contribute to food safety, and to better health and welfare of livestock.
