| The AOASM is the oldest primary care based sports medicine specialty.'It was formed in 1976 to fulfill the mission of a branch of the healing arts profession which utilizes a holistic, comprehensive approach to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of sport and exercise-related injuries, disorders, dysfunctions and disease processes.'The founders, pioneers and expert sports medicine specialists, realized that while there were several physician organizations that support sports medicine, there was not a forum specific for Osteopathic sports medicine physicians.
